We had just said goodbye to our first Iceland group and then suddenly the temperature sky-rocketed! It would be 18-22 degrees in the coming days around the east-fjords. What a treat! As we now had 10 days in between trips, we decided to do our first hike here, up in the north-east. A place we fell in love with, and of which we were surprised it’s not so well-known yet to tourists.
We hitchhiked to Borgarfjörður Eystri, a small town mainly known for the fabulous puffin watch-point. However, the area has so much more to offer. Whether you’re traveling around in your 4×4, motorbike, mountainbike, horse or on foot. We did the last, and went for a 4-day hike that starts in this small little town. A town that’s also home to a spa, campsite and music festival btw – so even if you’re not into puffins, well-worth the visit! Even if it’s just for the beautiful road into the valley – which is awesome!!
The 4-day hike we went to do is called the Víknaslóðir hike, a 68km long and takes you through breathtaking scenery. From orange mountains, to big lakes, swamps, snow plains, waterfalls, and even the sea is never far away. You’ll find the hiking map here.
