‘Er gaat niets boven Groningen’; the Dutch saying meaning ‘nothing better than Groningen’. We will find out why on this Groningen trip!
We will explore hidden places, sail and sleep on a 120 year old ship at the Waddenzee, canoë, do a sunset surf session at Schiermonnikoog, climb the world’s highest artificial climbing tower*, visit the city of Groningen and do a beautiful ½ day hike.
We will start our trip by getting in the outdoor vibes immediately ; we’ll enjoy a beautiful hike around the area of Slochteren. Also we’ll go on a full-day kayak trip where you’ll feel as if you’re in another country.
We’ll go to the city of Groningen, where you can climb the world’s highest artificial climbing tower*. The next day we’ll enjoy some aerial yoga* and see the clearest night sky in the Netherlands (only one of 42 places in the world).
After this, we will visit the beautiful island Schiermonnikoog to enjoy a sunset surf session with an instructor!
Last but definitely not least, we will end our week with a sailing trip on a 120 year old ship where we’ll spend the night on the shallow of our beloved Waddenzee! The views in Groningen are unlike anything else in the Netherlands. Are you ready to visit the most northern province of the Netherlands?!
the bus
At the end of the day, when you just want to chill, we’ll be waiting there with your home for the coming days.
Fully equipped with heating, kitchen, bathroom, comfy beds, a big lounge and of course…a fire pit!
Of course part of the fun is to be driving around in our ancient bus, transformed from an old public transportation bus into a comfortable hostel on the move.
We’ll be on a roadtrip to discover the province. Our bus will take us from A to B and will be our home for the coming days.
You’ll have your own bed, with curtains to provide some privacy. Upstairs you’ll also find the lounge with a view, while downstairs is the living area, with kitchen, bathroom and dining area. Both areas have what we call in Dutch ‘ARKO’ (Alle Ramen Kunnen Open’) and a heating system for the colder nights.
So, hop hop, train your muscles because we might need you cutting vegetables or pushing the bus up the hill every now and then! All part of the adventure!
